Laboratory Equipment and Safety Workshop for Research Projects, Faculty of Bioengineering and Technology

The Faculty of Bioengineering and Technology (FBKT) has organized a Laboratory Equipment and Safety Workshop for students taking the Research Project II course. This course is compulsory for all FBKT students, where they will be conducting their research based on their research proposals presented last semester. This project is carried out by each student with a guidance of a supervisor among FBKT lecturers. Therefore, this workshop was held to help the students to understand the use of tools in the laboratory and its safety measures while using these tools when conducting their respective research projects.

The workshop was held on Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at several FBKT laboratories, namely Material Science, Microbiological Technology and BAP laboratories. Five lecturers were invited as speakers and instructors during the workshop, assisted by four laboratory assistants to ensure the workshop to be properly run. Some of the equipment used during this workshop are oven, autoclave, fume hood, biosafety cabinet, laminar flow cabinet, and general tools such as fire extinguishers and other items. A talk on chemical management was also held online on 7 December 2021. The students were divided into several groups and moved to each tool according to a pre-determined schedule with their respective groups. A lecturer was assigned to each tool to explain to the students about the tool. At the end of the workshop, each student who attended was given a certificate of participation.
